URMC Experts to Host GI Endoscopy Course for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals
Gastroenterology experts at the University of Rochester Medical Center have organized a statewide hands-on advanced endoscopy course for nurses and allied health professionals on Friday, May 29, in the Ryan Case Method Room at URâs School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Open to professionals from across New York and its neighboring states, the Advanced Endoscopy Nursing Course is designed to give gastroenterology nurses, technicians, and mid-level providers an opportunity to learn about new technology and techniques in endoscopy. In addition to lectures, participants will observe live procedures and take part in hands-on workshops aimed at improving their knowledge and skills. The program will focus on general and advanced endoscopic therapies for benign and malignant disorders of the GI tract, liver, pancreas and biliary system.
URMC experts will lead the teaching, joined by guest faculty from the University of Chicago, Carnegie Mellon University, and Staten Island University Hospital. The course is directed by Gastroenterology Division Chief Vivek Kaul, M.D., endoscopic experts Shivangi Kothari, M.D., Truptesh Kothari, M.D., Asad Ullah, M.D., and nurse leaders Kristine Jaeger and Mary Jo Ciaccia.
