University’s DeMeo Elected to United Way State Board of Directors

Andrea L. DeMeo, executive director and chief operating officer for the Center for Community Health of the University of Rochester Medical Center and director of the University’s annual United Way campaign, has been elected to the United Way of New York State Board of Directors.

DeMeo brings extensive organization leadership, strategic planning and grant writing expertise to the board, which partners with local United Way chapters to help create service plans that benefit individual communities across the state.

DeMeo serves on the United Way of the Greater Rochester Area’s Community Investment Cabinet and Community Campaign Planning Cabinet. In 2011, she received the United Way Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Community Campaign, and was recognized in 2008 with the United Way Outstanding Campaign Director Award. DeMeo has directed the University of Rochester’s annual United Way campaigns since 2006, annually raising more than $1 million for community programs. DeMeo also was the recipient of the Greater Rochester Award for Community Service in 2011 and the New York State Woman of Distinction in 2010.

“For years, Andrea has shown tremendous dedication and support to our United Way,” said Peter Carpino, president of United Way of Greater Rochester. “Her hard work has brought about great change in our community and has helped thousands of people in need. She will be a valuable asset to the United Way of New York State board of directors and will undoubtedly demonstrate the same passion and dedication she has shown to United Way of Greater Rochester.”

The University is particularly proud of DeMeo’s new role.

Other groups currently benefiting from Ms. DeMeo’s skill and expertise include the Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Health Association of NYS, and the YMCA of Greater Rochester. Her past community commitments have included volunteer service for Junior Achievement of Greater Rochester, Finger Lakes Visiting Nurse Service, Continuing Care Network, and Health for Life.
