Patient Care

University Medical Imaging to Join UR Medicine July 1

Jun. 24, 2020

University Medical Imaging (UMI), a private practice that has served the Rochester region for 30 years, will join UR Medicine effective July 1.

“We are extremely excited about this partnership,” said Eric P. Weinberg, M.D., FACR, president of University Medical Imaging. “The union allows a wider range of imaging technology, with access to the breadth and depth of the UR Medicine health system, providing a continuity of care that will benefit a broader patient population.”

In addition to 90 dedicated employees who are an integral part of its care team, the practice includes UMI Medical Director Peter Rosella, M.D., and radiologists Nicholas I. Kilmer, M.D.Gary Hollenberg, M.D., FACRSteven P. Meyers, M.D., Ph.D., FACRDavid A. Shrier, M.D., and Andrea Zynda-Weiss, M.D.

“UMI faculty have long been part of the UR Imaging Sciences department and formalizing the relationship further strengthens our position as the leader in imaging care in our region,” said Jennifer A. Harvey, M.D., FACR, the Dr. Stanley M. Rogoff and Dr. Raymond Gramiak Professor and Chair of the Department of Imaging Sciences at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Founded in 1990, UMI is the only locally owned outpatient imaging center, and the only private-practice imaging facility in the area with a diagnostic medical staff comprised exclusively of fellowship-trained radiologists. Seventy-five percent are fellowship-trained through the University of Rochester Medical Center and the UMI MRI Fellowship.  All radiologists hold faculty appointments in the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and are leaders in their field—contributors to peer-reviewed medical journals, pioneers in imaging research, and compassionate providers who are involved with patient care every day.

The URMC Department of Imaging Sciences, with more than 80 radiologists, encompasses outstanding education, research and clinical excellence in a leading academic health sciences institution. The Imaging team serves six UR Medicine hospitals and 16 outpatient imaging centers providing digital and computed radiography, digital fluoroscopy, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CT, MRI, PET-CT, angiography services, and the region’s only PET-MRI scanner.

UMI becomes UR Medicine Imaging-UMI and will continue to provide services at its three locations:

  • 4901 Lac De Ville Blvd., Building D, Suite 140, to become part of Strong Memorial Hospital;
  • 2180 South Clinton Avenue, Suite E (MRI only), to be operated as part of the University of Rochester Medical Faculty Group;
  • 2400 South Clinton Avenue, Building H, Suite 50 (X-ray only), to be part of the University of Rochester Medical Faculty Group;
