Olympic Medalist to Talk Injury Prevention at URMC Orthopaedics Event

Mar. 14, 2013

Olympic pole vaulter Jenn Suhr, who brought home the gold medal from the Summer 2012 Olympic games in London, will be the featured speaker at a free URMC Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation seminar on March 23.

Suhr, a graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College who makes her home in Churchville, will share her Olympic experiences and talk about the steps she herself takes to prevent injuries. Suhr also will sign autographs.

Michael D. Maloney, M.D., chief of URMC Sports Medicine and professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, will kick off the activities at 1 p.m. with a discussion about injury prevention and the proper steps that all athletes, whether middle and high school students or adults, should take to avoid injuries.

The free community event, scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. at the University of Rochester’s Goergen Athletic Center Field House, will include breakout sessions with URMC Orthopaedics physicians, physical therapists and athletic trainers related to warm-ups and stretching, plyometric (jump training) progressions, a core station, and sports nutrition, among other topics.
