Leading Bioethicist Will Address Health Care Reform, Future of Medicine
Ezekiel Emanuel, M.D., Ph.D., the chair of the Department of Clinical Bioethics at the Clinical Center of the National Institutes of Health and an outspoken observer of health care in the United States, will deliver the 13th annual Marvin J. Hoffman Lecture April 27 at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
The lecture begins at noon in the Class of 1962 Auditorium in the Kornberg Medical Research Building at the Medical Center.

Emanuel, who is the older brother of Rahm Emanuel, the mayor-elect of Chicago, has titled his lecture “Health Care Reform and the Future of American Medicine.”
Emanuel, a breast cancer specialist, is widely published on the ethics of clinical research, advance care directives, end-of-life issues, euthanasia, the ethics of managed care and the physician-patient relationship. Until January, Dr. Emanuel was a special advisor on health policy to the director of the Office of Management and Budget and National Economic Council.
Emanuel earned his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital and an Oncology Fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He then joined the faculty at Dana-Farber, where he remained before accepting his current position in 1998.
