Dozier Inducted into American Academy of Nursing
Ann Dozier, Ph.D., acting chair of the University of Rochester Medical Center Department of Public Health Sciences, has been selected as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. Dozier was inducted on October 17 during a ceremony at the Academy’s annual policy conference in Washington.
The American Academy of Nursing's approximately 2,200 fellows represent leaders in education, management, practice, and research. Fellows are selected based on their significant contributions to nursing and health care, including improving the quality of care, promoting healthy aging, reducing disparities, shaping healthy behaviors, and strengthening delivery systems, both nationally and internationally.
Dozier’s research and fieldwork focuses on maternal and child health, with an emphasis on improving breastfeeding among low income women and reducing infant mortality. The scope of her work is to identify barriers to improving maternal child health, evaluate and identify the most effective ways to overcome these challenges, and work with providers and other organizations to promote the adoption of these best practices on a community-wide scale.
Dozier currently leads several projects that focus on reducing disparities in infant mortality and increasing breast feeding rates among low income and minority women. Earlier this year she assumed leadership for the first ever New York State funded Maternal and Infant Health Center of Excellence, a five-year project that will provide training, technical assistance and evaluation to more than 40 community organizations across the state that serve at risk mothers.
Dozier received her Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Rochester in 1996 and joined the URMC faculty in 1999.
