David Grabowski, Authority on the Economics of Aging, to Present 13th Annual Saward-Berg Lecture

David C. Grabowski, Ph.D., a renowned health services researcher and expert in the fields of aging policy and long-term care, will present the 13th annual Saward-Berg Lecture on Friday March 8, 2013. The Lecture – entitled “Care Coordination for Dually Eligible Beneficiaries” – is sponsored by the Department of Public Health Sciences and will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Helen Wood Hall Auditorium.

Grabowski – a professor in the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School – has made significant contributions to the study of the health and personal care needs of seniors. His work has helped define and understand the market for long-term care, including the impact of Medicare and Medicaid policies, payment models, and delivery system design on access and quality of care. 

 

Grabowski is a co-editor of the journal Health Services and Outcomes Research Methodology and a member of the editorial board of Medical Care Research & Review and The B.E. Journal of Economic Analysis & Policy. He received his Ph.D. in public policy from the University of Chicago. 

The Saward-Berg lecture is named for Ernest Saward, M.D. and Robert L. Berg, M.D.  A 1939 graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Saward was medical director of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program from 1945 to 1970, a distinguished University of Rochester faculty member, and a pioneering expert in health plans. Berg was the founding chair of the Department of Public Health Sciences (formerly the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine) where he served as an invaluable resource and mentor for medical and graduate students for almost 50 years. He was also an early architect of community health initiatives in the Rochester area. Doctoral and post-graduate students in the Department of Public Health Sciences selected Grabowski to present this year’s lecture.
