The City of Rochester and the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) will sponsor the third annual Women’s Health Screening Fair at the Market, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Rochester Public Market, 280 N. Union St.
The fair features free health screenings for adult women, including tests for cardiac disease, breast disease, diabetes, asthma, stroke prevention, kidney disease, skin cancer, HIV/AIDS, glaucoma, osteoporosis and mental health issues. Additionally, doctors, nurses and pharmacists will be on hand to answer participants’ questions and resources will be offered to those without health insurance.
“In many of Rochester’s homes, women are primary care givers and the Women’s Health Screening Fair is an excellent opportunity to spread healthy habits across our community,” said Mayor Thomas S. Richards. “I am honored to continue the City’s partnership with the University of Rochester Medical Center and bring this Fair to the Public Market for a third year. This is a great example of leveraging scarce resources to achieve a maximum benefit.”
“We welcomed and served more than 430 women at last year’s fair and hope to draw even more women this year, helping them identify potential issues and access resources to lead them to better health,” said James R. Woods Jr., M.D., chair of URMC’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “Promoting women’s health requires personal responsibility but also community action. By offering the Women’s Health Screening Fair at the Market, we urge women to ‘spend an hour with us, and we will give you back a lifetime of health.’”
The Women’s Health Screening Fair at the Market is co-sponsored by Wegmans, MVP Health Care, Excellus, M&T Bank, Presentation Source, Verizon Wireless, and the Rochester Academy of Medicine.
