New Dialogue Issue Spotlights the People, Teams, Behind the Scenes that Help Wilmot Succeed
Welcome to the 2021 edition of Dialogue, a magazine for community members who support the Wilmot Cancer Institute. Filled with inspiring stories about patients and the interesting, smart people who work at Wilmot and support the institution, Dialogue showcases why Wilmot is unique in the region.
- In this issue, the stories go behind the scenes to call out some essential teams and individuals who rarely get attention: clinical study coordinators (pg. 2), specialty pharmacists (pg. 6), data managers, and bench scientists (pg. 10), for example. They serve in the background, but their hearts and minds are front and center.
- An adventurous survivor of blood cancer and a stem cell transplant celebrated his 10-year milestone by climbing Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, the highest peak in the Northeastern U.S. (pg. 8)
- Philanthropy is also spotlighted, including a wrap-up of Wilmot’s annual Discovery Ball (pg. 15) and a major gift from Sidney Sobel, M.D, and his wife, Barbara (pg. 14), to support an endowed professorship in Radiation Oncology.
Many of these tireless people scaled plenty of hills during the past 18 months. In the midst of the global COVID pandemic, Wilmot’s researchers and oncology teams acted with resilience to deliver complex cancer care, investigate new therapies, and move forward with bold plans that were in motion well before COVID struck.
As Wilmot Director Jonathan Friedberg, M.D., says, it’s perhaps the most exciting time ever to be working at Wilmot, which is planning for a promising future.
